What is FARF Tank?
An exciting opportunity offered by FARF to allow up and coming researchers an opportunity to pitch their innovative ideas to the Fanconi anemia scientific community and win a $10,000 grant.
How it works:
- 10 contestants will be chosen to present their ideas. See below on how to become a contestant.
- Each contestant will have 5 minutes and a maximum of 5 PowerPoint slides to pitch their FA-focused project to the entire Symposium audience (250+ people) and a panel of judges (FA scientists and clinicians).
- At the end of the FARF Tank session, two winners will be chosen: one by the judges and one by the audience.
- No written proposal required for contestants. Winners will be asked to provide a short (1-2 pg.) written proposal following the conference.
Guidelines:
- Open to grad students, post-docs, fellows, and junior faculty members.
- Contestants must attend the FARF Scientific Symposium in Chicago, IL, Sept. 19-22, 2019.
- We are looking for innovative, high-risk, high-yield, outside of the box proposals for a one-year project. Projects must be focused on FA basic or translational research.
- Winners will be required to provide a short written report of their research outcomes and give an oral presentation at the 2020 FARF Scientific Symposium in Austin, TX, Sept. 17-20.
How to become a contestant:
- Submissions to participate in FARF Tank will be accepted June 17 – July 31st through FARF’s website.
- Applicants will be asked to complete a short submission form with a tentative title and 500-word paragraph outlining project aims, significance and potential impact on advancing basic research or treatment of Fanconi anemia.
- Submissions will be reviewed by the judging panel after July 31st. Everyone will be notified whether or not they were selected by August 15.
