Free thyroxine, also called Free T4. Thyroxine is a hormone produced by the thyroid that plays a role in several bodily functions, including growth and metabolism. It exists in two forms in the blood: T4 that is bonded to protein in the blood and free T4. Free T4 is the type available for use by the body’s tissues.
