Eunike Velleuer-Carlberg

MD | Düsseldorf, Germany

Dr. Eunike Velleuer-Carlberg is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist at Helios Klinikum Krefeld and a research associate in cytopathology at University Hospital Düsseldorf, Germany.

She has met and examined more than 1,000 people with Fanconi anemia (FA), visited families in their homes and followed many over years. “Each person has taught me something I could never have learned from the literature alone,” she says. These relationships have broadened her understanding of FA beyond the scope of individual research projects and shaped the perspective she brings to clinical care, research and FCF’s Scientific Advisory Board.

She has helped develop and implement noninvasive approaches to oral cancer screening, co-led the Cancer Awareness Team project and moderates the European FA Virtual Tumor Advisory Board. Her current research explores premature aging, immune function and opportunities for personalized prevention in FA.

She received FCF’s Pioneer Award for Therapeutic Advancement in 2024 and joined its Scientific Advisory Board in 2026. “Joining FCF’s Scientific Advisory Board is a tremendous honor,” she says. “I’m really looking forward to contributing to the discussions and sharing what I’ve learned from the FA community over the years.”
