Virtual Tumor Board

What is the FCF Virtual Tumor Board?

The Fanconi Cancer Foundation Virtual Tumor Board (VTB) is a panel of physicians experienced with treating patients with Fanconi anemia (FA) who volunteer their time to discuss difficult FA solid tumor cases and leukemia cases, to offer treatment guidance. The specialists on the panel have expertise in otolaryngology, hematology oncology, radiation oncology, and medical oncology.

The VTB was developed to provide support to individuals with FA and their treating physicians, who may have less experience with treating cancer in individuals with FA. Members of the VTB meet virtually with patients’ treating physician(s) to review cases and provide input for treatment, from an FA-centric viewpoint. This process allows continued learning on how to best treat cancers associated with FA, which in turn may help others with similar diagnoses.

For Patients with a Cancer Diagnosis

If you or your loved one has recently been diagnosed with a solid tumor or leukemia, we strongly encourage you to discuss the Fanconi Cancer Foundation’s Virtual Tumor Board (VTB) program with your treating physician as early as possible. The VTB brings together a panel of FA-knowledgeable cancer experts to provide treatment insights tailored to your diagnosis.

To make the most of this opportunity and help advance future care for others with FA, we encourage individuals considering the VTB to enroll in the NIH Fanconi Anemia Cancer Screening Study. Participation in this study allows for secure sharing of medical records and formal consent to publish clinical insights—both of which are critical for improving and expanding FA-focused cancer care. If NIH enrollment isn’t possible, we ask that individuals at minimum be enrolled in FCF’s Patient Registry, which also supports research and helps us identify trends across the FA community.

If you and your doctor agree that the VTB may be helpful, you or your physician can fill out the contact form below. FCF staff will then coordinate with your care team to organize a VTB discussion of your case.

Your FCF contact for the VTB: vtb@fanconi.org or 541-687-4658.

The physicians on the VTB generously volunteer their time for this service, which FCF offers at no cost to you. The VTB may review US-based or international cases.

For Physicians

If your FA patient has been diagnosed with a solid tumor and you’d like to review the case with the VTB members, please fill out the form below, which includes a brief synopsis of the patient’s cancer-related medical history, along with the timeframe in which you would like the VTB to occur. For any questions, please reach out at vtb@fanconi.org or 541-687-4658 ext 302. We will provide you with more details on the process and coordinate the meeting with the VTB members.
